24 Hours In A Play II
Date: 05/17/2008

"24 Hours In A Play"
A one of a kind collaborative performing arts event Saturday, May 17th, at 8:00 pm above the Blend Restaurant, 221 Second Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids.

The event features seven plays written by seven area playwrights, directed by seven area directors and performed by 38 local actors. All will be written, directed and performed within a 24-hour period.

The way that the festival works is that all of the 50+ volunteer playwrights, directors and actors meet at 7:00 pm the evening before the festival. At this time they are assigned, through a random drawing, to a team including one playwright, one director, and a group of actors. The teams are also assigned through the drawing a play genre, a random line, a crazy prop and a location where the play will take place, such as the "Top of the Empire State Building." The team meets briefly that evening to discuss the next project, and then the playwright has from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am the next day to create a 10 minute play based on the team's random draw.

The public is welcome to be part of the event. Doors open at 7:00 pm Saturday, May 17th, for a reception including a cash bar provided by Blend. All seven plays will be performed at 8:00 pm that evening, exactly 24 hours after they were assigned. Tickets to the event are $5 and will only be available at the door. More information is available through (319) 389-0244.

24 Hours In A Play will include actors, writers, and directors from several Corridor-area theater and performing arts organizations including: SPT Theatre, Theatre Cedar Rapids, Stage Left Productions, Ushers Ferry Parlour Theatre, The LeftOvers Comedy Troupe, Kirkwood College, Mount Mercy College, Coe College, Washington High School, Kennedy High School, Mount Vernon/Lisbon Community Theatre and The Black Dogs Corridorwide playwrighting group.
